Unemployment Rises Along With SSDI Claims

Posted on Dec 02, 2010

October 26, 2010 - Social Security Disability Insurance company Allsup, a nationwide provider for SSDI and Medicare plans, has released their quarterly study of employment rates and SSDI claims for the 3rd quarter of 2010.

PRWeb reports that the Allsup study showed an unemployment rate 67.7% higher for people with disabilities when compared with non-disabled persons. For the third quarter the rate averaged 15.6% for disabled compared to 9.3% for non-disabled.

With unemployment rates soaring, so is the number of SSDI applications coming in to help support the unemployed in their daily needs. The number of applications increased 4.3% for third quarter 2010, compared to third quarter 2009. The SSDI claims queue currently has about 1.8 million claims pending with an average wait time of 850 days for a decision.

While new programs are being implemented to help speed up the disability claims process for severely disabled individuals, many still wait months, even years before their application is given a decision. The backlog is why it is so important to apply as soon as possible for SSDI when you suspect your disability will cause a long-term inability to work.

New York Social Security disability lawyer can assist you in evaluating your potential Social Security disability benefits claim and get your application properly completed, supported and filed to avoid being tied up in reviews. The best help you can give your claim is to have it well documented and prepared so Social Security claims investigators can process your claim as quickly as possible.
