Telethon for Center for Disability Services in Albany Raises $1.9M

February 17, 2011 - Albany, NY - The annual telethon for the Center for Disability Services in Albany concluded on January 30 with a total of $1.967 million raised in just 7 hours.

The Business Review
recently reviewed the success of the telethon, reporting the total this year surpassed the 2010 mark by $63,000 and was made possible by the WXXA/FOX23 station. Country 107.7 WGNA FM also supported the event with an all-day radiothon on January 28th to kick off the event and promote participation.

The 7-hour telethon was hosted by GLEE star Jane Lynch who was joined by one of her co-stars, Matthew Morrison as a special guest. Other celebrity appearances included Seth Myers of Saturday Night Live, American Idol judge Randy Jackson who hosted the telethon in 2006, David Robertson of the New York Yankees, and Adam Koets of the New York Giants.

This was the 51st telethon to raise funds for the 65-year-old nonprofit center, which provides services to more than 15,000 residents in 9 upstate New York counties. The 85 locations operate with a $100 million budget which relies heavily on donations through events such as the annual telethon.

The Center for Disability Services in Albany is one of many nonprofit organizations in the New York state area that provide assistance to disabled individuals and their families.
