According to reports, Larry Krause, 50, and Ovadiah Mussaffi, 52, were on their way home from Saturday services at Congregation Shaarei Orah when the incident occurred. That is when a large oak tree fell on the pair, crushing them, as they were walking on the sidewalk.

A similar accident occurred that same evening at approximately 8:30 PM on Lanier Lane in Suffolk County. That is when Julia Hughes, 73, just returning from a family party and walking along the sidewalk, became crushed by a falling tree. She died from injuries sustained in the freak accident.

A Hartsdale man was also killed the same night when a large tree fell on top of his car, crushing him. The victim has been identified as 58-year-old Brendan McGrath. Fortunately, his wife, Mary McGrath, was able to get out of the car. It was unclear as to whether she sustained any injuries.

Our thoughts and condolences go out to all of those that were affected by these freak accidents.
