A truck heading toward Staten Island crashed into the toll plaza of the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge on Tuesday, September 1, 2009, according to a source at the accident scene.
Apparently, the trucker lost his brakes, went up a curb at the toll plaza near lane 17 and hit the toll booth, said the source. The truck accident led to traffic build up heading into Staten Island. It was not reported as to how long the road was blocked during the investigation.
It was reported that the truck driver was pinned because his door was pressed against the toll booth. Emergency responders at the accident scene were hesitant about removing the truck driver because the door was smashed on the driver’s side and he had sustained injuries. However, they were able to rescue the trucker through the passenger-side door.
Emergency medical services (EMS) responded to the Staten Island truck accident scene. Officials at the scene said that the trucker injured his upper back and arms.
