
A Staten Island car accident involving three vehicles claims the life of an 18-month-old girl. The incident took place in Graniteville on Monday, January 4, 2010 on the Martin Luther King Expressway.
The victim, Gina Marie Fantauzzi, 18-months-old, of Staten Island, was transported by rescue workers to Richmond University Medical Center in West Brighton following the three-vehicle car accident on Monday. Hospital officials later pronounced her dead from injuries sustained in the accident that occurred along the Martin Luther King Expressway in Graniteville.
Fantauzzi was riding in her mother’s car when the incident occurred. There was no other information available as to whether anyone else involved in the wreck suffered injuries.
The family will bury Fantauzzi’s body near the duck pond at Resurrection Cemetery in Pleasant Plains. Family members described her as a little girl that lit up when ducks were found on her back porch. They said that she always wanted to play with the birds.
“She was such a sweet little girl, she just smiled at everything,” her grandfather, Steven Hayden, said. “She was so full of life. It was unbelievable.”
The fatal three-vehicle accident is still under investigation by local police and the district attorney’s office. No other details concerning the accident were available.
