Road Rage a Factor in Staten Island Car Accident

Posted on Nov 16, 2009

A Staten Island car accident involving two vehicles in Eltingville is preceded by a case of road rage. The incident took place at the intersection of Amboy Road and Richmond Avenue.

The accident occurred when Steven Alessandro, 22, while attempting to make a turn from the Tottenville-bound right turn lane, slammed his 2000 Cadillac into another car that was situated in the middle lane.

Tosh Rotondo, of Great Kills, was the driver of the second car. “This car just comes flying and sideswipes me,” said Rotondo. “Then I pull in front of him. He rams my car, rams my car, rams my car.”

According to police, Alessandro then produced a bat and started hitting Rotondo’s vehicle, causing extensive damage. Alessandro then turned his aggression on Rotondo by striking him with the bat. Rotondo, while still in his car, attempted to block the blows with his forearm.

According to witnesses, Alessandro then got into his car and fled the scene. He later turned himself into authorities. No reports were given as to any injuries suffered by Alessandro or his alleged female passenger.

Rescue workers transported Rotondo to Staten Island University Hospital where he was treated for injuries. His injuries included whiplash.

The incident is still under investigation by local authorities. Alessandro faces a multitude of charges including second-degree mischief and first-degree reckless endangerment.
