NYC Group Seeks to Aid Disabled Members of the Jewish Community

Posted on Feb 04, 2011

February 3, 2011 - New York, NY -The Jewish Funders Network, headquartered in New York City with members across the globe, has announced a new formation of a peer network to help advocate for special needs and disabled individuals in the Jewish community.

A press release from The Jewish Funders Network announces 14 founding members contributing to the project from across the United States, United Kingdom, and Israel. The 2-year initiative funded by the JFN seeks to help assess the current funding provided to special needs and disability programs in the Jewish community. Attention will focus on the areas that are found to be underserved and would benefit from the additional funding the JFN can provide.

The chair of JFN, Murray Galinson, notes that 14% of the Jewish community has been identified as being special needs or disabled, creating a growing call for more focus on developing programs to assist those in need. One of JFN's goals is to help integrate families with disabled or special needs individuals into Jewish communal life.

The JFN is a group of philanthropists gathered to promote the health of the Jewish community across the globe. This latest advocacy program came about from the ADVANCE conference held in October 2010 which focused on special needs.

There are many private organizations that work to assist those with disabilities to live full and rewarding lives. Social Security disability benefits are just one of the many programs established to help disabled Americans maintain a decent standard of living through compensation for daily needs and other important expenses.
