April 22, 2011 - You may soon hear the iconic voice of Sulu from the original Star Trek series telling you to "Boldly Go to www.socialsecurity.gov" for your disability benefits.

Actor George Takei and actress Patty Duke have teamed up in an 8-commercial set of advertisements designed to promote the various benefit programs available on the Social Security Administration's website. Duke has been a long time supporter of the SSA programs and participated in previous celebrity endorsements for the department, along with other notable people such as Don Francisco and Chubby Checker.

Capitalizing on the iconic catchphrases of Takei's best known TV role on Star Trek, the two celebrities encourage everyone regardless of age to head to the SSA website for information on the retirement, disability and Medicare programs. The commercials include several pop culture references in an attempt to encourage online applications.

The message delivered through the commercials is that everyone should consider how Social Security benefits can be of interest to them. The ads focus not only on retirement-aged Americans, but also children of disabled or aged parents, disabled individuals, and low-income families.
