New Rules in November Will Help Speed Up SSD Benefit Process

Posted on Oct 21, 2010

October 21, 2010 - The two new Social Security disability benefits claim processes - Quick Disability Determination (QDD) and Compassionate Allowances (CAL) - have been finalized and published as new rules to help speed up the application process for severely disabled individuals.

The QDD process relies on computer models that analyze specific data sets within the disability file to single out cases where there is a high likelihood of disability approval.
This allows claims processors to identify easily-approved cases-those for claimants with severe disabilities that need little argument-and get them processed more quickly.

The CAL process is similar in expediting claims that are obvious cases where Social Security disability benefits are awarded. There are currently 88 specific diseases and conditions that are deemed clearly disabling by the CAL process and allow those applicants with such conditions to be approved quickly.

By expediting the claims that are obviously qualifying for disability benefits the SSA can then get these severely disabled claimants the help they need. This also frees up more administration employees to handle the harder-to-process claims, such as those that require additional documentation or may not qualify under the evidentiary requirements.

These two new rules will go into effect on November 12, 2010 and may have an impact on your Social Security disability claim. To learn more about the recent changes in the processing of SSD applications, you should speak with an experienced Staten Island Social Security disability lawyer.
