New Jersey Car Accident Involves Charter Bus

A New Jersey car accident involving three vehicles, including a charter bus, claims the life of one person. The incident took place at approximately 5:30 AM on Sunday morning, May 2, 2010, along Interstate 78.

According to police, the incident occurred when a 37-year-old driver from Bethlehem, Pa., traveling the wrong way on I-78, slammed into a sport utility vehicle (SUV). The force of the impact caused the vehicle, a compact car, to spin out of control and into the path of a charter bus. Rescue crews pronounced the driver of the car dead at the scene of the accident.

There were 45 people, including 35 minors, reported on the bus at the time of the collision. No one appeared to be seriously injured except for the bus driver who has been identified as Richard Roach, 72, of New Kensington, Pa. He was reported as suffering a broken ankle as a result of the crash.

It was unclear as to how many people were in the SUV or if anyone onboard was injured.

The charter bus is owned by Roenigk Coach Co., out of Sarver, Pa. The bus was traveling from Pittsburg to Brooklyn for a religious event.

The early morning New Jersey accident is still under investigation by local authorities.

This is an unfortunate incident and our thoughts and condolences go out to all of those who have been affected by this tragedy.
