Eight people were killed when a minivan and SUV collided in New York. Only three people survived the fiery crash. The minivan driver became ill and started traveling the wrong direction. Numerous people called 911 to report the van.
Diane Schuler, the 36-year-old driver of the minivan, was heading home from a family camping trip and had five young children in the vehicle. She hit a Chevy Tracker SUV, which caused the minivan to roll off the side of the road into the embankment. The woman and five children were thrown onto the median from the impact. The SUV that was hit then struck a Chevy Trailblazer, killing all three people in the SUV. The occupants in the Chevy Trailblazer sustained minor injuries.
Only one person survived in the minivan, which was Diane Schuler’s 5-year-old son. However, he suffered significant head wounds and other serious injuries from the crash and was taken to Westchester County Medical Center. Schuler died in the accident, along with her 2-year-old daughter and nieces, ages 5, 7 and 9.
