
A Medford car accident involving a car and a bicycle results in a female cyclist sustaining injuries. The incident took place at approximately 6:00 PM on Monday evening, November 16, 2009 in the New Jersey town.
According to authorities, Lisa Granert, 42, of Cherry Hill, was riding her bike on Route 70 when the incident occurred. Robert Sharrer, 28, of Pemberton, driving a 1994 Oldsmobile Cutlass, reportedly wandered onto the shoulder and struck Granert. According to police, she was wearing a reflective vest and a helmet when she was hit.
Sharrer told police that he was texting when he hit Granert. According to police, the text messages related to an illegal drug deal.
Rescue workers transported Granert by air to the trauma unit at Cooper University Hospital in Camden where she was treated for fractures to her face, leg and vertebra.
According to police, they received reports from witnesses that Sharrer was driving erratically before hitting the cyclist.
Police found unauthorized prescription drugs in Sharrer’s car and he was charged with drug possession with the intent to distribute.
The accident is still under investigation by local authorities. However, police indicated that Sharrer will face charges as a result of the accident, pending the outcome of blood tests.
