Long Island Auto Accident Involves Fuel-Truck

A Long Island auto accident kills a man after a car and fuel-track crash along the Long Island Expressway. The incident took place on Saturday morning, January 23, 2010, near the Suffolk-Nassau County line.

According to reports, Marie Medina, 30, of Bayonne, was heading to her parents house in Farmingville when the incident occurred. Her 2001 Dodge Neon was stranded in the center lane due to mechanical problems.

A fuel-truck struck her car while attempting to avoid her. The tanker flipped over and exploded into flames.

The driver of the truck has been identified as Mujahid Shah, 57, of Brooklyn. Shah had just picked up approximately 1,500 gallons of fuel before the crash. According to police, the driver died instantly in the fiery explosion.

Rescue crews transported Medina to Nassau University Medical Center where she was treated for minor injuries.

“All I know, I saw the truck coming at a speed,” Medina said. “I thought, ‘Oh, my gosh, this truck doesn’t see me.’ I said, ‘God, protect me.’”

The Long Island auto accident is still under investigation by local authorities. Medina reportedly had her emergency lights on at the time the vehicles collided.

This is an unfortunate incident and our thoughts and condolences go out to all of those that have been affected by this accident.
