Less than 50% of Coronary Artery Disease Patients Receiving Drug Therapy

In a report from Health Day, new research finds that less than 50% of coronary artery disease patients are receiving drug therapy.

Drug therapy is beneficial to many patients who undergo surgery to have a stent placed in a coronary artery. It can help prevent future cardiovascular problems. However despite the benefits, most patients are not put under this optimal type of medical therapy.

This type of therapy includes aspirin, statin drugs to reduce cholesterol and beta blocker medication. It has been shown to help patients long-term. Researchers indicate that ideally most patients who are to undergo a stenting procedure should be given this drug therapy in order to see if there is improvement in their symptoms.
