Posted on Mar 21, 2010

A Garden City Park auto accident leaves one man dead and two other injured after they crash through the front of a home on Fifth Avenue. The car accident occurred about 2:15 AM on Thursday morning, March 16, 2010.

Annette Giudice and her son, Ray, were awakened by the early morning crash. “We were awakened by an instant bang,” Giudice said. “After we heard the bang, we ran down, and everything was silent.”

According to the Nassau County Police, 28-year-old Jonathan Leiz, of Bellmore, and two passengers, were traveling down Broadway when they went threw a stop sign and crashed into the basement of the Fifth Avenue home. Police did not find any skid marks and believe that Leiz may not have attempted to stop his 1997 Infinity.

Leiz was killed instantly from injuries sustained in the single-vehicle wreck. Rescue crews transported both passengers, José Varraos, 23, of Freeport, and Alden La-Rocca, 26, of Mineola, to nearby hospitals. They were both listed in critical condition.

The Garden City Park accident is still under investigation by local authorities. Police are awaiting the autopsy reports to determine if drugs or alcohol played a roll in the fatal incident.

This is a terrible tragedy and we send our condolences to Mr. Leiz’s family and friends. We also wish the other two victims a speedy recovery.
