Death Rate in U.S. Drops to Historical Low

Posted on Mar 30, 2011

According to a report from Health News, the death rate in the U.S. dropped to a historical low in 2009. Additionally, life expectancy rates are beginning to climb.

The 2009 death rate statistics were just released by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Now at the lowest rate in recorded history, the age-adjusted death rate is at 741 deaths per 100,000 people. This indicates a 2.3% decrease in comparison to death rate statistics of 2008.

Additional findings include U.S. death rates lowered for the following:

  • heart disease - 3.7%;
  • stroke - 4.2%;
  • cancer - 1.1%;
  • chronic lower respiratory diseases - 4.1%
  • accidents - 4.1%;
  • Alzheimer's - 4.1%;
  • diabetes - 4.1%;
  • influenza/pneumonia - 4.7%; and
  • blood poisoning - 1.8%.

While it is great news that these conditions are resulting in fewer fatalities, some of them can still become disabling
and cause an individual to be unable to continue working. When this happens, you may be eligible to receive Social Security disability benefits.

To determine if you qualify for Social Security disability benefits or to appeal a denied disability claim, you should immediately consult with a New York Social Security disability lawyer.

A New York Social Security disability lawyer will explain how the listing of impairments works and evaluate your case to determine if you meet the criteria.
