A Bridgewater car accident leaves a local man dead after he loses control of his car on Route 22 in the New Jersey city. The incident took place at approximately 9:00 AM on Monday morning, January 4, 2010.

According to local police, Charles Jones III, 68, of East Main Street, lost control of his vehicle and hit several objects, which included two stop signs, a median and a cement pillar. Police arrived on the scene to find the mangled car on a cement ramp underneath the Interstate 287 overpass near Foothill Road on Route 22 East.

Rescue workers arrived at the scene and pronounced Jones dead from injuries sustained in the accident.

Local commuters were inconvenienced for several hours as crews removed debris from the accident. Emergency crews were required to shutdown the onramp to Interstate 287 as well as all lanes, except the shoulder, of Route 22 East, well into the afternoon.

No other vehicles or injuries are believed to be involved in the New Jersey accident. However, the incident is still under investigation by local authorities. Police have indicated that no criminality is suspected. It also has not been determined as to why Jones lost control of his vehicle.
