In a report from HealthDay.com, alcohol use and obesity are among the leading causes of sudden cardiac death. When heart problems lead to disability, then you could qualify to receive Social Security disability benefits.
While the number-one cause of sudden cardiac death is coronary artery disease, an additional leading cause has now been found. A study in Finland indicated that 78% of those who experienced sudden cardiac death had suffered from coronary artery disease; however, there were a high number of deaths related to other causes.
Alcohol was found to be the cause in 26% of the cases involving those between the ages of 40 and 59. Obesity was found to be the cause in nearly 23% of the cases involving those who were older than 60.
While the study reinforces what medical experts have always known about the risk of death for those who have coronary artery disease, it also brings awareness to the potential for those who consume alcohol and/or battle with obesity.
