According to a report from Health Day, the ability to ride a bike may help determine the type of Parkinson's disease that an individual has developed. When you have been diagnosed with a debilitating condition that leaves you unable to work, then you could be entitled to Social Security disability benefits.
A study recently published in the Journal of Parkinson's Disease, indicates that those individuals who have difficulty riding a bike may suffer from atypical Parkinsonism, which is a condition with symptoms similar to those of Parkinson's, however, requires different treatment.
On the other hand, those who have Parkinson's disease are generally able to ride a bike without difficulty. Since this study was done in Japan, there are still questions as to whether or not this would apply to different countries and other types of riding environments.
However, researchers believe it could be a helpful tool when meeting with a patient to discuss as a possible symptom of the type of Parkinson's present. It may help provide direction as to the possibility of the patient suffering from Parkinson's disease or atypical Parkinsonism.
