Baby Injured Due to Nursery Products | Staten Island Child Injury Lawyer | Lawyer for Defective Products in New York
Unless you are constantly trying to stay on top and aware of recalls you may not realize just how many nursery products are recalled every year.
In 2009 there were many infant products recalled ranging from swimming toys to cribs and everything inbetween.
Here is a list of the top dangerous nursery products in 2009:
Jardine Cribs - 96,000 Jardine cribs were recalled because crib slats can break creating a gap which could potentially cause strangulation or suffocation of an infant.
Smart Monitor 2 Infant Apnea Monitor Recall - This apnea monitor was recalled because the apnea monitor is meant to keep track of and monitor the breathing of the infant and if there is a problem it is supposed to send out a notification so that the parent or whoever is caring for the child will know that there is a problem and potentially a medical emergency. The Smart Monitor 2 Infant Apnea monitor was recalled because it fails to send out an alarm signal when it is supposed to.
Simplicity Crib Recall - 400,000 Simplicity cribs were recalled because the plastic hardware can break or deform causing the rail to break off and poses a risk of entrapment, strangulation and/or suffocation.
Aqua Leisure Baby Float Recall - Over 4 million baby floats were recalled due to the potential hazard of of the leg area detaching from the rest of the intertube or baby floats and could cause the baby or child to fall under water which could cause a child to drown.
Maxi Cosi Car Seat Recall - Dorel Juvenile Group recalled 28,350 Maxi Cosi car seats because of there were problems with the infant carrier seat not attaching correctly to the base which can cause the seat to fly out of the base if a car accident is to occur.
Simplicity Bassinet Recall - The CPSC recalled Simplicity bassinets due to the risk of entrapment and suffocation which can be cause by a child rolling onto the adjustable fabric siding or becoming entrapped near the velcro where the bassinets bars are located. The CPSC recalled 3-in-1 and 4-in-1 bassinetts made by Simplicity for this reason.
Window Shades and Blind Recall - Although blinds and window shades are not specific to nurseries or children's bedrooms I wanted to include this on the nursery products recall list for 2009 because many children died or nearly died because of being strangled by blinds and shades in either their bedroom or some other room in the house. The blind recall included over 5.5 million blinds, window covers and shades.
Plums Organic Baby Food Recall - Plums Organic issued a recall for thier apple and carrot portable pouch baby food due to a possible contamination of Clostridium Botulinum in the baby food which can cause Botulism. Symptoms of constipation, floppy movements, trouble controlling their head, weak crying, drooping eyelids, tiredness, difficuty sucking or feeding, and paralysis.
Stork Craft Crib Recall - The Stork Craft crib recall included over 1.2 million cribs made by Stork Craft. In this case the cribs were recalled because of the drop side of the crib being hazardous and causing entrapment and strangulation.
These are just the major infant toys and nursery items that were recalled for being dangerous to babies. Among other recalls were things such as baby toys that were recalled for lead and other issues.
