Some Insurance Companies Are Known for Denying New York Claims
Insurance companies are using tactics to boost profits at the expense of consumers, according to the American Association for Justice (AAJ). “Insurance companies are preying on cash-strapped consumers with tough tactics to increase profits. The current challenges facing American families are only compounded when their insurance company plays hardball in their greatest time of need,” said American Association for Justice CEO Jon Haber.
One of these tactics is denying claims.
Based on the AAJ’s report, Tricks of the Trade: How Insurance Companies Deny, Delay, Confuse and Refuse, some of the largest insurance companies in the United States are systematically denying claims, including Farmers, Allstate, AIG and State Farm. These big insurers have gained reputations as aggressive claims fighters as a means to raise their bottom lines. The AAJ has stated that Allstate gave rewards to employees who denied valid claims. This insurer also used a “boxing gloves” approach when dealing with policyholders who refused to accept low settlement offers.
When you are injured in a Staten Island car accident or the victim of a motorcycle accident in Brooklyn, you want to feel that the insurance company is going to protect you and that you will be compensated for your injuries. Too often, insurers are uncooperative and either make lowball offers or deny claims all together.
