Birth Injuries to Mother During Labor or Pregnancy | New York Lawyer for Birth Injury Compensation

Everytime a woman is pregnant they are put at higher risk for injury than before. Having an experienced doctor or caregiver that understands how to handle your pregnancy is important in making sure you, the mother, are not put at risk for injury. Unfortunately, many times a doctor's negligence results in injuries to the pregnant mother or the mother delivering a child.

Birth injuries to a mother, whether it be during the delivery process or at some time throughout the term of the pregnancy, can be devistating and cause long term injuries to the mother, immediate serious complications, and in some cases birth injury can lead to death of the mother.

Most births usually leave a mother without any injuries but sometimes due to medical malpractice and medical negligence an unavoidable injury or complication may occur. In this case the injuries to the expectant or delivering mother may be able to be compensated for by hiring a birth injury lawyer to start a lawsuit and fight on behalf of you for the devistating injuries that you have suffered.

If you are a mother who has suffered a delivery room injury or truama during the labor process or if you were an expecting mother who suffered an injury during the term of your pregnancy contacting a New York birth injury lawyer from our Staten Island injury law firm is free and there is no obligation required for us to review your case with you.

If you suffered any of the following birth complications or birth injuries contact us to find out if you are entitled compensation for your injuries:

  • Pre-eclampsia - Pre-eclampsia is a dangerous condition that can occur during pregnancy and is detected by high blood pressure and protein in the urine. Other common symptoms are swelling, excessive or rapid weight gain, headaches and possible change in vision. If pre-eclampsia is left untreated it can result in serious injury or death of the mother or the infant.
  • Cesarian Section (C-Section) Injuries - This procedure involves an incision being made to the mother's abdominal wall and then through the uterine section to deliver the baby. This method is most commonly used when the baby is in a breach position and is unable to be delivered by a vaginal birth. If proper steps are not taken during this method there is a risk that the mother can suffer from excessive bleeding or a uterine infection.
  • Episiotomy - An episiotomy is when an incision is made through the perineum to assist in vaginal birth. If an episiotomy is incorrectly done it can result in excessive bleeding, rectal problems or life threatening infections.
  • Ruptured Uterus - A ruptured uterus can result from an overdose of Pitocin or Cytotech, each is a drug used to induce labor. If a woman is administered an unsafe amount of Pitocin or Cytotech it can cause the mother to experience violent contractions and as a result cause the uterus to rupture.
  • Anesthetic Complications and Errors - Anesthetics are administered to women in labor to reduce the pain felt during the birthing process. If too little or too much anesthetics are administered the woman may experience low oxygen levels due to low blood pressure. Also, if a woman is administered a epidural, which is used to relieve labor pain, incorrectly it can result in back problems and may even cause paralysis.
  • Infections - Birth infections can result as if the woman is nicked by a tool used to deliver the baby. Nicks most commonly occur to the bladder but sometimes occur to other organs also.

If you were injured due to the negligence of a hospital, obstetrician/gynocologist (ob/gyn) or other caregiver during the term of your pregnancy or during the delivery process and would like to discuss how to start a lawsuit for the injuries you suffered from or if you lost a loved one due to a preventable error of a doctor contact our law firm by filling out our short web form or call us at 800.976.4904 to discuss how we can help you.
