What is a dependent?

A: A dependent is a person eligible to receive death benefits in a fatal injury case. Surviving widows and children under age 18 years are eligible for benefits without proving dependency. Grandchildren, brothers and sisters under age 18 and parents and grandparents may all be considered dependents.
