Many victims from the WTC rescue and cleanup were looking forward to Zadroga Bill for many different health issues but perhaps one of the most common health problems among the victims is cancer. While this issue may not be plaguing as many people as issues such as a constant cough or asthma it is a condition that a large percentage of WTC victims have developed and, unfortunately, will probably continue to develop over the years to come.
World Trade Center victims need to be able to have the peace of mind that they are covered under the Zadroga Bill for all health issues they may have including cancer caused by the WTC rescue and/or cleanup. To many people's suprise though the Zadroga Bill does not include benefits and coverage for cancer. Lawmakers opposing cancer coverage under the Zadroga Bill claim that it would be nearly impossible to determine whether or not the cancer present in a person was caused by exposure at the World Trade Center or if it was caused by something else. Therefore, the bill currently does not include benefits and compensation for WTC victims with cancer as their only health condition. It is important that the bill be changed to reflect those with cancer though because this is a very dangerous health problem and for those exposed to toxins and debris at Ground Zero it is a very real possibility that it may have caused them to have cancer. This could be due to toxins such as asbestos, PCB's, and many other toxic debris present after the WTC was attacked.
