Often times insurance companies payout money for accident injuries that is below the amount. For more information on New York car accident laws and injury compensation amounts call 718.979.4300.0

Will the Money from the Insurance Company Cover My Injuries

When involved in a car accident there are many different things that need to get taken care of properly but one of the most important things to take care of if you are injured is your health. It is important that if you are injured after a car accident that you seek medical attention as soon as possible and that you go to any necessary follow-up appointments.

Often times if you were injured by someone who was driving negligently and it is determined that they were at fault the insurance company will offer you money as a settlement for any injuries that their negligent driver caused to you but often times the amount of money the insurance company gives for injuries is insufficient to the amount that it will cost the injured driver. Here are some costs you should consider if a car insurance company is offering you money for your car accident injuries:
  • Cost of surgery
  • Cost of hospital bills
  • Cost of ongoing treatment such as physical therapy
  • Cost of time lost from work
  • Cost of prescription drugs
  • Cost of any other type of treatment to repair the injury

These among other costs all play into how much you will need to properly recover from your injury and you should also take into consideration, if the injury is severe, that the injury may be one that is not completely repairable.

Insurance companies usually offer the minimum amount for injuries which often results in a situation where a person runs out of insurance money meaning that they run out of the money the insurance company gave them for their injury. Sometimes this happens a few months or a few years after the accident occurs but the injury may have not fully healed and may still require treatment.

It is important to take all aspects into consideration before making settlement with the insurance company because if the settlement money the insurance company is offering you is insufficient you may be left with the cost. You should always consult the advice of an experienced injury lawyer for a car accident injury.
