What All New Yorkers Should Know About Family Social Security Benefits

Do you or someone you know receive Social Security benefits? If so, or, if you are considering applying, then you need to know that your family members may also be entitled to receive benefits.

As you are already aware, a person’s disability can impact the entire family. That is why the Social Security Administration (SSA) has created what is referred to as family benefits.

According to the SSA website, your spouse, your divorced spouse, your children and your disabled children may be able to receive benefits. As a matter of fact, each family member may be able to receive up to 50 percent of your disability rate per month.  However, with all things, there are limits.

Applying for disability or determining whether any of your family members are eligible can be an overwhelming task. It is highly recommended that you seek legal advice to help you sort through all the rules and forms set forth by the SSA.

If you or someone you know is applying for or has been denied Social Security benefits, you should contact an experienced New York Social Security Disability lawyer at the law offices of Decker, Decker, Dito and Internicola at (718) 979-4300 or (800) 976-4904.
