Thumb, Finger or Hand Severed at Work: Are you Wondering How you will be Able to Provide?

Some manual labor jobs including machine shops, lumbar shops and deli’s require workers to use potentially dangerous machines to do their work on creating an unsafe work environment.  It only takes one wrong thing to occur or one improper working machine and it could cut, or even worse, sever your thumb, finger or hand and you may be left not only with an injury but with a disabling situation.

When a body part such as a hand or finger is severed due to negligence of the company you may be wondering how you will be able to provide for your family without your hand, thumb or fingers.  Perhaps your skilled trade requires the use of the severed body part and it leaves many feeling scared, alone and not in control of the situation.

If your employer or company is at fault for the accident that took place that resulted in your sever injury or an accident that results in you needing to get an amputation you can apply for Workers Compensation benefits.  Workers Compensation benefits are put in place to protect you, the employee, in case of these type of circumstances.

If you are involved in a work accident you will first want to get the necessary medical attention you need then you will want to begin filing a Workers Compensation claim (this must be filed within 30 days of the incident or else you may lose your right to your workers compensation benefits).  If you were injured at a job in New York you will want to contact a New York Workers Compensation attorney and discuss your injury with the lawyer.   When you contact the Workers Compensation attorney you will want to ask them any questions you may have about your workers compensation case.    Remember that filing a claim and contacting an attorney in a timely manner is an important factor in your workers compensation case.
