Teen Driving Safety Week: What New York is Doing About Teen Driving Tickets, Accidents and License Suspensions

National Teen Driver Safety Week is from October 17 - 24 this year. National Teen Driver Safety Week was put in place in order to take the time out to let teens know the real dangers that are associated with driving and to address serious problems that plague many driver, especially teen drivers, such as distracted driving or driving with over-confidence. 

While it is nice to have a national program set up for teen driver safety it is also always nice to see steps being taken on a local level.  New York State recently put a program into place called Teen Electronic Event Notification Services ("TEENS"). The TEENS program was established by the New York Department of Motor Vehicles in order to allow the parents or legal guardians of teen drivers to be notified by email, snail mail or regular mail if the teen in their care gets a ticket, gets into an accident or gets their license suspended or revoked.  

Many parents and guardians of teens like the TEENS program that has been put in place because it will not give their teen drivers the opportunity to hide the truth about accidents and tickets that they otherwise may have not been informed about. Some teens also have spoken out about the program saying that they feel as if the system makes them a better driver because they do not want their parents or guardians to get notified that they are driving irresponsibly and possible take away driving privileges.
