A 15 year old Staten Island girl was injured yesterday on Victory Boulevard in Staten Island New York. The teen girl, Alexa Longueira, was fell in an open manhole while texting on her phone. The manhole was opened by the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) for the flushing of a high pressure sewer system.
Alexa Longueira was texting on her cellular phone when she fell into the open manhole which was about five to six feet deep and flooded with sewage. Workers standing nearby quickly helped her out of the hole.
The open manhole was not surrounded by cones or tape to block it off. The DEP workers claim that they were just about to set up the cones when she walked by.
The family of the girl is very disturbed by the lack of precaution taken by the DEP and is looking to take action against the DEP by possibly hiring a Staten Island personal injury lawyer and filing a lawsuit against the DEP for the injuries caused to their teenage daughter from falling in the open manhole in Staten Island New York.
The DEP said they are not taking this situation lightly and are investigating.
