Staten Island Ferry Andrew Barberi Crashes Leaving Passengers Injured

Unfortunately the news reports in New York City this weekend were filled with stories of how the Staten Island Ferry Boat Andrew J. Barberi crashed once again leaving dozens of people injured from the ferry crash as were in the October 15, 2003 Staten Island ferry crash.  Although no one was killed in the ferry accident that happened on Saturday May 8, 2010 many were injured by the crash.

The cause of the Andrew J. Barberi crash still remains under investigation and authorities are saying it is possible that the cause of the ferry crash could be because of a mechanical error but they are not ruling out anything at this point. So far authorities have only released information that the boat's captain, Donald Russell, passed a test for the possible influence of alcohol.  Drug tests and tests concerning how the ferry was operating the day the boat crashed are still pending.  According to reports a possible cause for the Andrew J. Barberi crash is that two or the ferry's four engines may have stopped running but no alarms sounded to alert the crew that the ferry was experiencing problems.

Currently the number of serious injuries have not yet been calculated but we should be hearing more about how many injuries were suffered because of the Staten Island ferry crash within the next 90 days or so as this is the time limit to file a claim against the City of New York.
