Staten Island Child Injury Alert: Toy Dart Gun Recalled for Risk of Injury After Two Boys Die

The Consumer Product Safety Commission and Family Dollar worked together to issue a recall for 1.8 million toy dart gun sets that are sold exclusively at Family Dollar.  The recall was issued after Family Dollar contacted the CPSC regarding the dangers of the toy dart gun sets and the manufacturer of the gun, Henry Gordon International in New Jersey, refused to recall the product.

Two young boys, one 9 years old from Chicago and another 10 years old from Milwaukee, died from asphyxiation deaths after the boys chewed on the one inch soft darts and the darts slipped down their throats.  The boys died from the suction cup of the dart cutting off their breathing.

The CPSC and Family Dollar are advising anyone who has purchased one of these kits to take it away from their child immediately and contact the Family Dollar store they purchased it from for a refund to avoid the risk of your child choking on the recalled darts.  These products were sold for $1.50 at Family Dollar stores exclusively and were sold between September 2005 and January 2009.
