If you own one of these recalled bassinet models you are urged to stop use IMMEDIATELY!
Simplicity has recalled yet another one of their products due to life threatening hazards. Since 2005 Simplicity has recalled 11 of their infant products which includes cribs, bassinets and play yards due to life threatening hazards such as strangulation and suffication.
On August 20, 2009 the Consumer Product Safety Commission re-anncounced the recall of the 3-in-1 and 4-in-1 bassinetts by Simplicity. The re-announcement of the recall was sparked due to the death of two more infants and the injury of two other infants since the first time the bassinet recall was announced nearly a year ago in August of 2008.
The recents deaths were of a two month old girl in Georgia who suffocated after rolling onto the adjustable fabric siding which caused her face to press into a pocket area which formed near the velcro area. The other death was of a six month old girl in Texas who became entrapped in the bassinet's bar opening near the Velcro (which in this case was not fastened).
The tragic death of these two children and the life threatening dangers that have been reported by other parents from around the country has cause the CPSC to re-announced the recalled bassinets in hopes of preventing the injury or death of more infants who currently use these products.
If you own a Simplicity 3-in-1 or Simplicity 4-in-1 bassinet you are urged to check the model number on the product to make sure your child's bassinet is not one of the many recalled hazardous bassinets.
The model numbers being recalled are as follows: 3000, 3010, 3011, 3012, 3013, 3014, 3015, 3016, 3014, 3020, 3025, 3026, 3027, 3030, 3040, 3045, 3046, 3047, 3050, 3060, 3070, 3111, 3112, 343-8363, 343-8399, 5730, 5750, 8383, 9250 and TD2500.
The bassinets were sold at many stores nationwide including Toys R Us, Babies R Us, Walmart, Kohl's, USA Baby and many more places.
Simplicity does not appear to be running day to day operations anymore and is no longer answering phone calls or responding to emails from customers. However, there are certain stores who have agreed to take the hazardous merchandise back and credit a store refund.
Among the stores excepting the hazardous bassinets are:
Lake Bluff, IL
Other than this recall there was another recall issued by the CPSC in July 2009, click here for more information on the recall of the Simplicity Drop Side Cribs.
