US Republican Aaron Schock has proposed a measure currently pending in Congress that would give veterans who purchase a franchise a large rebate for franchise fees.
The proposed bill would offer a tax rebate of up to $12,500 (or half of what they pay in franchise fees, whichever is lower) for any fees required of the veteran who wants to open a franchise. In turn companies who offer discounted franchise fees to veterans would receive a tax rebate of up to $12,500 (or half of the discounted franchise fee, whichever is lower) also.
For example if the company normally charges a franchise fee of $20,000 and offers a discounted fee of $10,000 the franchisee will pay $10,000 and the franchisor will get reimbursed $5,000 and the franchisee will be able to receive a tax rebate of $5,000.
If you are considering the purchase of a franchise you should speak with an experienced franchise lawyer about any questions you may have on the process of buying a franchise.
