Prescription Medication Mishaps: Confusing Prescription Information Fliers May Change Soon

Some people find the drug information fliers that come with prescription drugs to be confusing and not easy to understand.  In fact, when asked, many patients say that they are either confused because of the medical language that is represented in the information fliers or because of the inconsistancy they see in the medication fliers that are received from the pharmacy.

The information fliers that are attached to medications are meant to be used help patients identify medication, understand how to use the medication, know what to avoid while on the medication and to know what side effects to look for while they are on the medication but when the information fliers are difficult to read to the most of the people taking medications there is a general understanding that maybe something should be done about this problem.

When you have patients that do not understand their medication information pamphlets or are seeing inconsistant instructions with the medications it can result in a potentially dangerous situation.

For instance, according to a recent article on this subject sometimes the fliers have information that is drug specific that otherwise would probably not be known by the patient. Often times there are specific things you are supposed to not take or take while on a medication but sometimes the instructions for these specifics varies from pamphlet to pamphlet depending on the pharmacy it comes from.

The Food and Drug Administration is working on standardizing the pamphlets and coming up with an easier way for patients to read and understand the pamplets that come with prescription medications.
