A recent study revealed that there may be a link between traumatic brain injuries and post traumatic stress disorder. Patients with a mild traumatic brain injury and PTSD are more likely to see an increase in the severity of their traumatic brain injury condition within a year after the accident. This includes worse cognitive function and worse health conditions. For more information on traumatic brain injuries cause by an accident in New York call 718-979-4300 to speak with Frank J. Post Traumatic Stress Disorder May Worsen Traumatic Brain Injuries from an Accident

A new TBI study by the University of Washington School of Medicine in Seattle shows a strong connection between Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and the worsening of traumatic brain injuries.

The study revealed that traumatic brain injury patients with PTSD are more likely to have worse cognitive function and more health problems one year after the traumatic accident takes place.

Things not taken into account by this study were length of coma, posttraumatic amnesia, or neuropsychological or neuro-radiologic evaluations.

Another interesting fact presented by the study was it showed patients who suffered from a severe traumatic brain injury were less likely to have symptoms of PTSD. This may be because most patients who suffer from a severe traumatic brain injury may have loss of memory of the accident or incident which caused the injury to occur.
