GlaxoKleinSmith, a British drug manufacturing company, is said to have paid over
$1 Billion in Paxil lawsuits consisting of cases where there was suicide, attempted suicide or other complications as a result of adverse side effects from taking Paxil. GlaxoKleinSmith has not confirmed or denied the amount of the payout from Paxil lawsuits as of yet.
Paxil, also known as paroxetine, and Paxil CR were discovered a few years ago to be linked to suicidal thoughts in children and young adults especially those who have psychological disorders already. Paxil is an anti-depressant that has been found to show extremely dangerous adverse side effects. The drug was banned from being used for children under 18 years of age and was required in 2006 to put a new warning on the drug specifically geared towards young adult between the ages of 18 - 30 years old. The problem is that the anti-depressant drug Paxil has been prescribed since 1993 without a warning and without a specific warning label for young adults of the dangerous side effects of Paxil.
Over the past 16 years thousands of people have been affected by this dangerous adverse side effect of Paxil causing suicidal thoughts. The large amount of people who have been affected by Paxil have resulted in many lawsuits which have been estimated to have cost the manufacturers of GlaxoKleinSmith over $1 Billion not including the lawsuits which have recently immerged against Paxil for
birth defects. Suicidal deaths and suicide attempts account for approximately $390 Million of the lawsuit payouts for Paxil. The remaining lawsuits consist of various other adverse side effects and health problems from Paxil which include the following health problems:
- Anxiety Attacks
- Panic Attacks
- Agitation
- Hostility
- Aggressiveness
- Engaging in Unusual or Dangerous Activities
- Extreme Mood Swings
- Unusual Changes in Behavior
- Serotonin Syndrome which includes symptoms of confusion or mental changes, rapid heart rate, nausea, vomitting or diarrhea, hallucinations, blood pressure changes, irregular heart rhythm, over-active reflexes, fever, sweating or shivering, shakiness, agitation, seizures and coma.
- Chest Palpatations
- Difficulty Sleeping
- Internal Restlessness or Jitteriness
