NYC Building Officials Warn Tenants to Stay off of Balconies to Avoid being Injured or Dying

New York City Building Officials over the past few months have been inspecting potentially dangerous balconies at various apartments throughout the five boroughs in New York  City (Staten Island, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens and the Bronx) and the results they found were quite disturbing.

NYC Building Officials have advised tenants in 16 NYC apartment buildings to stay off of their balcony until further notice because of the high risk of injury and death.  While 16 buildings were deemed as having unsafe balconies an additional 800 building owners were in violation for failing to file mandatory building inspection reports on the safety of their apartment building balconies and terraces.  Inspections are to be done and submitted every 5 years.

The investigation by the NYC Building Officials was sparked back in March of this year after a 24 year old man fell from a the 24th floor of his Manhattan apartment balcony after the railing of the balcony broke.

Tenants in New York City apartments should make an effort to find out if their apartment buildings are part of the warning to stay off of balconies that was issued earlier today.  According to officials the only borough that did not have buildings with faulty balconies was Brooklyn.
