According to a recent article in the New York Times a
mother was arrested Sunday night for drunk driving in New York after her daughter made multiple calls to the police reporting that her mother was intoxicated and swirving in and out of lanes. The New York State police responded to the call made by the 12 year old girl and arrested the mother for driving drunk.
A New York State law known as
Leandra's Law states that if a driver is driving drunk with a child age 15 or younger with a blood alcohol content (BAC) of 0.08 or higher they will be convicted of a felony on the first offense. The woman mentioned in this arrest was held to Leandra's Law which was put in place originally in 1999 after a young New York girl was killed in an accident caused by a drunk driver who happened to be the mother of one of her friends who was driving the SUV.
