MTA Considering Installing Sliding Doors to Prevent Subway Injuries

The MTA in New York City is considering installing sliding doors in New York City subway stations. This proposal came into consideration after another person was injured a few months ago. Injuries to the man included a crushed pelvis and injuries to his abdominal organs. This wasn't the only subway accident recently though. In fact, in 2009 alone 90 people were struck by trains and 40 of them died. With the awareness of the dangers a subway station presents it is important for the MTA to act accordingly and install the necessary equipment to make NYC subway stations safer for their customers.

The sliding glass doors the MTA is considering for New York City subway stations are currently used by other cities and AirTran stops. The doors would be built at the end of the platform and would only open when the train has arrived and is ready to be boarded. This would eliminate the danger of accidentally falling off the platform and in front of an oncoming train which happens more times than what it should and has caused many injuries and deaths over the years.
