Texting, talking on cell phones and not obeying state-placed curfew rules are just some of the issues that parents are talking to their teens about in New Jersey, New York and nationwide.
In the recent months texting while driving has become a very popular discussion in the media and among lawmakers. Due to the growing number of accidents caused by texting while driving many states are taking a closer look at whether or not they should ban cell phone use completely while driving. While driving distractions can cause accidents at any age, the focus has primarily been on teenage drivers.
A New Jersey high school in Monroe Township held a meeting on safe driving. Pam Fischer, director of the state of New Jersey's Division of Highway Traffic Safety, spoke about what teens can do to help prevent car crashes. About 400 students and parents attended the meeting where they were given information on alarming statistics of teens texting while driving, New Jersey car crash rates among teens and many other useful facts and statistics.
A few of the most alarming car crash statistics according to one teen who attends the high school were that every 9 minutes a teen is involved in a car crash in New Jersey, that Middlesex County has the highest number of teen crashes in the state of New Jersey and that the number one killer of teens is car crashes.
If you are a parent with a teen who has a license or a permit talk to them about safety precautions they can take to reduce their chances of getting into a car accident and getting injured. Car accidents are not always avoidable but there are many things you can do to reduce the chance of a crash occurring.
We, as parents, never want to see our children get injured but sometimes car accidents are caused by the negligence of another driver. In these incidences you will want to make sure that first and foremost your child gets the medical attention they need. After that you will want to make sure that before speaking to anyone else, such as an insurance company, about the accident case you speak with an
injury attorney. If you or your teenager was injured in a car accident contact Frank J. Dito, personal injury attorney representing clients in New Jersey and New York, at 718.979.4300.
