Infant Deaths Sparks Re-Announcement of Drop Side Crib Recall

In 2008 the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) recalled more than 985,000 drop side cribs made by Delta Enterprise Corporation. These drop side cribs were known for having a crib trigger lock and safety peg hardware. The recall was issued in 2008 after the death of an 8 month-old child after the baby became entrapped and suffocated when the drop-side of the crib completely detached. An investigation showed that the crib had been re-assembled without the pegs which were made to prevent this from happening.

The recall is being re-announced to remind parents to check their cribs to see if they have this product and to make sure the crib is properly assembled and to make sure the crib is not missing any pegs. This is especially true for those who have purchased or received the crib second-hand. Sometimes second-hand cribs can be very risky because they may not include all of the necessary parts to put the crib together property. If a crib such as the Delta drop side crib is missing one or both of these pegs it can cause a gap in the area where the drop side of the crib is and can cause entrapment and suffocation.

This re-announcement of the 2008 Delta drop-side crib comes after the death of a 7 month-old baby in January 2011 in Colorado Springs, CO.

The CPSC is urging parents to check their drop-side cribs. If they do indeed own a Delta drop-side crib it is important to make sure the pegs are not missing. If even one of the pegs are missing parents should immediately stop use of the crib as it could endanger your childs life. Delta is giving free repair kits to parents who own the drop-side crib and are missing a peg (or both pegs). To request this kit call Delta at 1-800-816-5304.
