Infant Car Seat Carriers Recalled Due to Fall Hazard Which has Injured 3 Infants So Far

The Consumer Product Safety Commission recently announced a recall that includes almost a half of a million infant carrier car seats manufactured by Dorel Juvenile Group Inc.  The Dorel infant car seat carriers are being recalled due to a defect with the infant seat handle that is used when the seat is being used as an infant carrier.  So far Dorel has received over 77 reports of the handle coming loose and have received reports of three infants who were injured by the infant car seat.

The Dorel infant car seats were marketed under the names of Safety 1st, Cosco, Eddie Bauer and Disney and were manufactured between January 6, 2008 and April 6, 2009.  Although the manufactured date for the last defective car seat is said to have been in April of this year the carriers were sold in stores up until this recall was issued a few days ago.  The product usually runs $120 - $220 and was sold at many different stores nationwide.  Click here for a full list of model numbers and brands being recalled.

If you believe that you have this defective product you should contact Dorel immediately to ask about receiving a free kit to fix the problem and should not use the infant seat as a carrier until the problem has been properly taken care of.  This problem is very dangerous and could potentially cause injury to an infant if the handle becomes loose and falls off from the infant safety seat.  If this occurs there is a risk that the infant can land on their head or face and suffer anything from cuts and scratches to a head injury.

If your child was injured by a defective infant carrier and you would like to obtain legal information about what your child’s rights are contact Frank J. Dito.  We will send you out a packet of information, no obligation or cost necessary, so that you can make an informed decision and so that you can decide if you need an injury attorney to represent your child in their injury case which was caused by a fall from a defective infant car seat.  If you would like more information contact us at 718.979.4300 or 800.976.4904.
