GM Recalls Heavy Duty Vans Because of Fire Hazard in Engine

GM has announced that it will recall 5,000 heavy duty vans because of a risk of engine fires.  The recalled GM heavy duty vans that can potentially cause a fire in the vehicles engine were made in February and March of this year and GM may be forced to hault production of the heavy duty vans for the month of April also.

The risk of engine fire in the recalled vans are suspected to be caused by faulty alternators.  GM announced today that they are issuing the recall of the vans and are hautling production of the vehicles until they have determined by investigation what the exact problem is and have come up with a fix for it.

The heavy duty vans affected by this recall are 2010 Chevy Express and 2010 GMC Savana passenger and cargo vans.

Here is how you can determined if your vehicle has been recalled in this specific GM heavy duty van recall:
  • If you own a 2500 or 3500 series of the heavy duty 2010 Chevy Express the recall information can be found by checking the last 8 digits of your VIN.  The recalled Chevy Express vehicles have the last 8 digits of somewhere between A1129327 and A1142523.
  • If you own a 2500 or 3500 series of the GMC Savana the recall information can be found by checking the series ID number.  Everything from A1128784 and A1901915.

If you have purchased one of these vehicles contact GM to find out how you can go about getting the recalled vehicle repaired to avoid injury and damage to your vehicle.
