One person was killed and at least 14 people were injured in an
emergency vehicle crash that occurred today at the intersection of Richmond Road and Burgher Avenue in Staten Island between a van carrying disabled adults and a fire truck on its way to a car fire. The van carrying the disabled adults was rear ended by the fire truck shortly after turning.
According to reports the fire truck had its sirens on moments before the crash occurred. At this time though it is not certain as far as at what point the sirens were turned on at. It is the law in New York for emergency vehicles to have their sirens and lights on when they go through a red light. One important aspect for any injured victim from this type of accident to consider is whether or not the emergency vehicle followed the proper procedures when going through the red light. If it did not, the driver of the emergency vehicle could possibly be held liable for driving negligently and recklessly and could ultimately be held responsible for the injuries which occurred.
