Falling Tree Branches in New York City's Central Park Causing Injuries and Deaths

In the past year or so there have been more than the normal "freak" type of accidents occuring in Central Park in New York City in regards to falling tree branches.

There have been four people so far in the past year that have either been injured or killed as a direct result of a falling tree branch in Central Park.

The two most recent people who were affected by a tree accident in Central Park occurred yesterday morning and killed a 6 month old baby and badly injured the baby's mother who is currently in critical condition in a New York hospital. When the City of New York was asked who was responsible for the upkeeping of the trees in Central Park the city told reporters that they were unsure.

Another incident occured this past February in which a New York man was killed by a falling tree branch in Central Park. The family of the man currently has a lawsuit pending. In this specific case the tree that fell had been deemed dangerous in December 2009 but still remained standing in February 2010 when it fell and killed the man.

Yet another accident occurred even before that one though - which occured in July of last year when a google employee was walking through Central Park and was struck on the head by a falling tree branch.  The 33-year old man survived the hit on the head but sustained spinal cord and brain damage.

Who Is Responsible for the Trees in Central Park?

The person who is going to be ultimately responsible for the injuries and deaths of the people who have been hit by falling tree branches in Central Park will be whoever is responsible for the upkeeping of the property.  Once this is determined it will be necessary not only for them to pay out money for the people who were injured by the trees and for the families who lost loved ones but also to fix the problem before it occurs again.  Having the knowledge that something is not safe and continuing to not do something about it is being negligent.  If you have had something similar happen to you or a family member call 800.976.4904 or email us to speak with Frank J. Our hearts and prayers go out to the families who lost someone or who is injured due to the falling tree branches in New York City's Central Park.
