Evenflo announced a recall today for a
wooden baby gate that they sell that is supposed to keep children from being able to fall down the stairs.
The Evenflo Top of Stair wooden gate is being recalled because the gate does not prevent children from falling down the stairs as the product is created to do. So far over 142 reports of the wooden gate slats breaking or detaching have been reported some of which have led to injuries to the child. A total of 11 children were injured so far from the recalled Evenflo baby gates. Seven of the children suffered scratches, scrapes and bruises and the other four sustained bumps and bruises to the head.
The Evenflo To of Stair wooden gate is being recalled and can be very dangerous to children if you continue to use it. If one of the slats detach or break the child could fall down the stairs and depending on the age of the child and how many stairs the child falls down will determine what type of injuries the child will sustain from the fall.
The defective baby gates were made from October 2007 to July 2009 and have the model numbers 10502 and 10512 which can be found on the bottom of the gate.
The
Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) is advising consumers to
contact Evenflo and stop use of the recalled gate immediatly. Evenflo will send a free replacement model which is a newer model 10503 and 10513. The telephone number for Evenflo is 800.233.2591.
