Elderly Woman Injured in Car Accident Outside of Bayview Rest Home in Long Island

Nancy Mikkelsen, a 70-year old resident of Bayview Rest Home in Long Island New York, was injured in a car accident outside of the rest facility and is currently in the hospital in critical condition.

Mikkelsen said she was taking her daily walk when she was struck by the vehicle outside of the Bayview Rest Home. 

This is the second incident in the past two years that has involved an elderly person who resides at the Bayview Rest Home being struck by a vehicle. 

The accident occurred in 2008 when a elderly man from the home left the building and wandered around outside.  In the period of time that he was missing from the rest home he missed three meals and his medications.  He was found dead the next day from injuries he sustained after a car hit him.

The Bayview Rest Home was cited for improper supervision and ordered the facility to come up with procedures to follow for anyone who is missing for over 24 hours.
