Toyota over the past 5 months has recalled about 8 million Toyota, Lexus and Pontiac vehicles but have they recalled all of the vehicles that they needed to or are they still skimping on the recall? According to many reports people are coming to the conclusion that the latter may be true in the Toyota recall situation.
It seems as if the 8 million vehicles recalled is just not enough based on the many people who are reporting that their Toyota vehicles have experienced acceleration issues also.
Here are some headlines that have been in the news regarding the Toyota recall for acceleration problems:
- Man Hopes for New Trial After Toyota Recall - Koua Fong Lee was arrested three years ago after three people were killed due to his Toyota car hitting another vehicle at a stop light while going 70 m.p.h. At the time that Lee was sentenced to 8 years in prison he said that he didnt stop because his brakes were not working at all. At the time of the trial the brakes were inspected but there was nothing wrong found with the brake system. Lee and his attorney hope to have his case tried again and will be having the 1996 Toyota's accelerator inspected to determine if it was indeed the cause of the accident.
- Lawsuit wants Toyota Recall Expanded - Virginia Castillo hit a parked school bus 5 years ago while she was driving her Lexus RX 330. She claims that she was making a turn and during the beginning of the turn the car unintendedly accelerated causing her Lexus to crash into the bus. For years she says she blamed herself eventhough she did not even know how she got into the accident but after the recent recalls realized that it was not her fault but rather the fault of her Lexus car. She even went as far as to ask the Lexus dealership to inspect the car for lunging forward when slowing to stop but the conclusion the Lexus dealership came to 5 years ago was that they were "unable to verify her complaint". Virginia Castillo is one of many Toyota, Lexus and Pontiac owners who are trying to get Toyota to expand the vehicles they have recalled because her car was not part of the recall along with approximately 50 percent of the rest of drivers who have filed complaints for similar issues.
- Lawsuit Alleges Toyota Sudden Acceleration Issue Not New Problem - A lawsuit that was started against Toyota alleges that Toyota fraudently has been conceiling the risks associated with many Toyota, Lexus and Pontiac vehicles since the early 1990's when the problems were originally being reported but were never addressed.
- For Extra Cautious Toyota Driver, a High Speed Death - Guadalupe Alberta a 77 year old woman at the time of her tragic death flew off of the road and her 2005 Toyota Camry crashed into a tree. Her family and friends both described her as a very cautious driver but the crash was caused by her driving over 80 m.p.h. on a quiet neighborhood street. Guadalupe's family is suing Toyota for wrongful death due to an accelerator problem. The 2005 Toyota Camry is currently not included in the list of recalled Toyota vehicles.
- Toyota Knew of Accelerator Problem Years Before Recall - Ernestine Montgomery's 2005 Toyota Camry accelerated when she applied the brake while at a grocery store parking lot. The car jumped the curb and flew into the wall of a grocery store building. Montgomery had the car repaired at a local Toyota dealership in 2006 at which time they switched out the accelerator pedal. Late in 2009 Montgomery had her car at the Toyota dealership again for normal maintainance when she was told that her accelerator pedal already had the new pedal installed that they were being instructed to use on vehicles that had an unintended acceleration problem. The recall was not announced until January 2010 and did not include the 2005 Toyota Camry.
As you can see in the five news headlines regarding Toyota and Lexus problems it does not seem as if Toyota has recalled all of the vehicles that have been giving drivers problems. This leaves the question weighing on many people's minds "Has Toyota recalled all of their defective and at worst dangerous vehicles?". We never want you to have to answer that question based on your own experience with a defective Toyota vehicle. Please make sure you check out our list of recalled Toyota vehicles. If you are ever in doubt as to whether your vehicle has been recalled or should have been recalled contact Toyota or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
