When choosing a daycare it is important to make sure you are choosing a daycare that puts safety first and has a good reputation.  Sadly some daycare centers in Staten Island and throughout the country are poorly run and create a dangerous situation for the babies and toddlers who attend the daycare.  Daycare negligence is nothing to be taken lightly here are some signs to look for when you are considering what Staten Island daycare center to send your child to:
  • Opening that can entrap a child's head or limbs
  • Unsafe window guards
  • Elevated surfaces that are not properly guarded
  • Loose or rusty parts
  • Chipping, flaking or peeling paint
  • Paint that contains lead or other hazardous materials
  • Sharp corners or points
  • Splinters
  • Protruding bolts, nuts or screws that could catch a child's clothing or become a hazard if a child falls on them
  • Small parts that or parts that may become detached easily as these small parts may become choking hazards
  • Dangerous playgrounds that are not age appropriate, do not have the proper protection or are rusty or need repair
  • Insufficient spacing between equipment in the room or in the play area
  • Tripping hazard

In addition to these things it is also important to evaluate the teacher or daycare provider and all employees who will be responsible for caring for your child while you are gone.  Speak to other parent who send their kids to the same daycare and do some investigating to make sure the people watching your child are responsible and safe providers.
