Dangerous Violations at a Medical Device Manufacturing Company Poses Risk for Serious Burn Injuries

Defective products can be very dangerous but perhaps some of the most unforeseen defective products are defective medical products.  From contaminated injections to recalls for over the counter medications it seems like potential dangers are lurking around every corner when it comes to pharmaceuticals and medical devices.

Last month the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced the investigation of two medical device manufacturers Abbott and Hospira Inc.  The companies are being investigated for defective power cords on their medical equipment which have possibly been linked to at least 122 fires.  The power cords were made by Electri-cord Manufacturing Corp. in Pennsylvania.

The FDA has been further investigating one of the companies associated with the defective power cord.  Abbott has recently been questioned and warned about the lack of safety and manufacturing procedures that their company uses for manufacturing medical products.

The FDA also warns consumers such as pharmacies, hospitals, doctors and patients that the defective medical equipment was distributed even after they became aware of the flaws and the defectiveness of the medical equipment but the specific devices mentioned by the FDA and Abbott were not mentioned. Unfortunately now this medical manufacturer's negligence may affect the lives of patients and cause injuries.
